Traffic on the Streatham High Road
The traffic situation on the Streatham High Road seems to get worse and worse. The other day I was out looking at a carte r4 for my DS on the High Road and I could not believe it. It must really make people frustrated to be driving in it and cause a lot of tension and aggression. Streatham High Road is a really long road and driving up or down it at most times of the day can take a long time. In face I actually think it would be quicker to walk and less stressful.
If they really want to improve Stretham and make it back into the entertainment heart of south London that it once was they really need to do 2 things. Build a huge car park and improve the flow of traffic.
There is absolutely nowhere to park in Streatham. Who is going to come there from a long distance when they may have to spend a hour driving up and down back stgreat looking for a space that is free that is not restricted? A big multistory car park will attract visitors and be great for all the local business along the High Road. Look other towns that, over the last couple of decades, have had similar developments like Wimbledon and Kingston, they both have more than one large car park with good information about where there are spaces. Even though they are also very busy place it is not so frustrating to drive there because everything seem a lot more organized and yo get to your destination in spite of the crowds.
They should block of half of the road that lead onto the High Road. This will mean that driver do not have to keep stopping to let other cars out in front of them and improve the flow of traffic.
I think if they can make these changes then they will improve Streatham.
