Witch-y Politics

Witch-y Politics

While looking online for manual handling train the trainer courses, I accidently stumbled on an interesting article about America on The Guardian homepage.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/sep/20/christine-o-donnell-dabbled-witchcraft

For a country where the separation of church and state is written into its constitution, The United States of America is surprisingly propelled by its right wing Christian voters. I didn’t really know who Christine O’donnell was until I was told by The Guardian that she dabbled in witchcraft. How utterly bizarre and to what end is this revelation made.
She is very matter of fact saying that she had friends who were part of a coven and had a picnic on a satanic altar-she gets points for the correct use of the term coven, but satanic altar? really? What is interesting is the struggle between the media’s Bill Maher who wants her to appear on his show; the populist Tea Party, who in some ways has hijacked the methods of Obama to mobilize grassroots financial support; and a very flippant candidate with conservative views who just admitted to casually dabbling with paganism.
I am tempted by conspiracy theories like that put forward in 1991 by Alan Bleasedale in G.B.H., and that perhaps she is a plant by the government to discredit and divide the tea party. GBH is great, because it posits that the government is trying to undermine the left by putting getting in extremist moles. Conspiracy theories are funny because they assume that the government or Republican Party is very smart. This was the problem with Democrats during the election fixing of 2000 and 2004, none of them really could accept that the Republicans were smart enough and sneaky enough to try to rig a vote by systematically disfranchising African-Americans in Florida.
History and evidence show that there was a thorough and well planned effort which resulted in the rolling out of a new world order. But I am scratching my head at the moment wondering who does it serve to reveal that Christine O’Donnell is a witch.

The Little Ones

The Little Ones

Are you the proud owner of a brand-new baby? Perhaps you gave birth to a little one a while ago and now it is a toddler walking around getting interested in everything, but mainly things it shouldn’t be touching? Or maybe you’re a dad who’s in dire need of some energy… The link might be of interest. It’s all about babies, the joy of young life and how we need to start teaching our children how to save energy at a young age (which, lets be honest now, is going to prove difficult: the young ones have so MUCH energy that you can forgive them for wasting a bit, can’t you?) Here’s where the article is at: http://www.eniginblog.com/2010/07/13/teaching-how-to-save-energy/ And it’s a good point. Twenty years ago energy saving wasn’t at the forefront of anyone’s mind. Back then we had no idea what the future would bring, and we were more concerned with whether or not we’d have hovercrafts in time for the year 2000 than we were about changing to low energy light-bulbs and saving on our heating bill. Attitudes change and I don’t think we should be too hard on ourselves now for not knowing what a mess we would end up in. It was the same with smoking and before that many other things. But it’s not too late to make a difference – switch off, recycle, buy a greener car like the insight hybrid. What IS important is that we don’t just sit back and forget it now we have the facts, and that we pass on this enthusiasm to our children so that they won’t fail to make a profound difference.

Social networking and marketing opportunities

Social networking and marketing opportunities

Enigin

suggests utilizing social networks to spread the word about business products and services. It’s a very interesting business suggestion to encourage the selling of services and products through facebook contacts.

Facebook does have millions of users, but it also boasts advanced filters that can narrow down the target market. The law of averages would seem to point to being more successful with facebook marketing to a community of millions of users rather than your local business association group because you can talk directly to the people that would be interested in your product or service.

However people tend to trust people they know and have purchased from before. There is brand loyalty once a company is off the ground. For the small business without the marketing resources or indeed the know-how, it is not such an effective business strategy to venture off into unknown untested territory such as social network marketing.

Surely the very genre title of facebook which is called social networking should set off business alarm bells. Members of social networks are looking to do just that. Socialize. They are not looking to buy products and services. If they were to be bombarded by companies to buy their products and especially if these were from “friends”, the response may not be positive. Spending time and resources on such marketing that may fail is not always an option for small business.

Research in order to gauge if there is a market for actual sales of product via social networking needs to be undertaken extensively to prove that there is a market. At present it seems rather than a market for sales of products and services there is an opportunity here within such groups as facebook to raise awareness of businesses and create a cost effective web presence. In this regard, networking sites such as facebook can be a positive addition to the small business toolbox for successful marketing.

Ever wondered what would happen if, by some mad turn of events, the Queen took over the politics of this country and was allowed to make all the decisions? Then you might be interested in this post.

And it’s an interesting point me thinks. Indeed, what would happen? Could the Queen do any worse of a job? Would the country come crashing to a halt? Or would things suddenly turn around and become good overnight? And what is this Enigin blog, exactly, more to the point?

Well, quite simply Enigin are an energy saving company who also have a load of rather intriguing blogs. Yep, they cover all the bases, and the best bit is that they often go off on random tangents (just like that weird bloke at work…every company has one, right?) and ask questions like the one above.

You can find many things discussed at these blogs. If you’re interested in money then there are a plentiful supply of posts talking about how to use it more efficiently (and how to save it) and if you’re interested in what new inventions there are that can assist you in making your home / business run better and smoother then that’s no problem either, Enigin have them by the bucket load. Really, you can find pretty much everything and the link above is a damn good place to start if you ask me. From there you can navigate your way around to lots of interesting places. Which should make you quite popular with the weird bloke at work…

More Fun Than Being Bitten

I was feeling tired. Oh so very tired. I don’t think I need to spell out just how tired I felt. The fact that I am now on the second line of this article, whilst simultaneously spelling it out and still moaning about how tired I was should give you a very good idea. Of how tired I was, I mean, if I didn’t make that clear enough.

And in my profound confusion I stumbled upon a web-site. Not the one I was after, but one about energy-saving. Fair enough, I thought, I’ll stick with it. I’m sure that saving energy can be just as fun as hang-gliding in the Alps!

Indeed I can confirm that it is. This site (which you can find here) has loads of pink, loads of cool design, and tons to make you interested no matter how knackered you feel.

A whole new world, in other words. A world where products called the ’Eniscope'mean that you can save energy without having to stop doing a thing! (A lie, of course: you may well need to stop doing something, that’s just common-sense.)

I was to discover that energy-saving was really quite an excellent thing to do. It would be wrong of me to try and convince you that saving energy is as fun as soaring through the air like a gigantic bird, of course. But it is fun. More fun than a job interview or being attacked by a Jack Russell as you ride your bike, for sure.

Problems from Ash Continue

After reading this story here, I find that I have some strong opinions on the subject. I know that volcano’s can be really destructive. I know that ash has covered town and caused issues. But I had no idea that ash could shut down most of a country. I think the amount of ash that appears to be in the air is absolutely astounding. I am having a hard time with the fact that all of the airports are shut down.

I find it equally astounding that they can’t even get basic supplies such as food in to those parts of the country. It is causing an insane amount of havoc. There are people stranded in Europe trying to get home. There are even people stranded in the US trying to get home to Europe. I find it equally disturbing that people are losing their places to stay as they only had their hotels booked for a certain amount of time. I also hear that the care fees advice service phones were flooded, due to the inability to care access from the elderly.

I also wonder what happens to the people that are stuck when they run out of spending money. I know when I go on vacation I only have a certain amount I can spend. If you are stuck in another country for days longer than you intended to be you could run out of money. The sheer amount of ash was also astounding to me. The reports said that it was 5.3 miles high. I cannot imagine the amount of ash it takes to cause a cloud to be 5.3 miles high. I cannot help but wonder what other issues a cloud of that size could cause. The ash is a mixture of sand, glass, and rock particles. I think that it is equally as sad that the ash in the air is going to make it impossible or nearly impossible for some people to attend the Polish funeral. I am also wondering how long it will take for the ash to clear completely.

Not Cursed

Not Cursed

I have had the same phone for five years. I repeat: I have had the same phone for five years. And I don’t even mean I’ve had the same version of mobile phone for the last five years–I do actually mean that the phone I own now is the one and the same phone that I purchased five long years ago. And you know what? I don’t intend on changing my phone any time soon. Why should I? Find yourself cursed with feeling the need to keep up with the latest technology like I really don’t? Then you’ll enjoy the following link.

Thankfully the Enigin people understand my plight. Even though they are tech-heads with brains that never, ever stop working, they also understand the value of keeping things simple and effective. The company, which specializes in energy-saving devices and everything associated with them, knows exactly when technology is needed and how it can be of use to both the individual and the company.

Now back to my stance on the phone debacle…

OK, I can fully understand that having access to the latest technology is a fantastic thing, but here’s the problem with getting a new one every five minutes: that’s more plastic going back in to the environment which has to go somewhere. That may not be a huge problem when it’s only your phone, but what about when it’s a million phones? And that’s precisely what’s happening every day…Something which has the potential to cause massive problems as the years go by and plastic refuses to decompose.

Women’s Weight Loss Tips – What You Can Do To Lose Those Unwanted Pounds

Women’s Weight Loss Tips - What You Can Do To Lose Those Unwanted Pounds

Weight loss

The first thing you need to do is forget about taking the advice from those women’s magazines, especially the ones with the younger looking girls on the cover. This is because most of these magazines are making bold promises in order to increase their sales.

To lose weight effectively, you really need to watch what you eat. Minimize the sugars, white flour, alcohol, caffeine and pastas and increase healthier foods such as fresh fruits and veggies, nuts, seeds, lean protein meats such as fish and chicken and eat organic.

You cannot expect to lose weight if you are sitting on the couch all day watching your soaps. Get off that couch and do some sort of exercise. If you are busy and cannot commit to a 30 minute exercise routine regularly, switch to a 10 minute routine. These routines are just as effective.

Do not forget about your breakfast. They were not lying when they said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. A good breakfast will consist of eggs, whole wheat toast and water, vegetable juice or some kind of healthy protein shake.

Eat more frequently during the day but cut your portions in half. This will keep you feeling full and will keep your metabolism running faster which will allow you to burn more calories.

Speaking of calories, the most efficient way to lose weight is to know how many calories you should be consuming a day for your weight and eat 500 less each day. You can burn those 500 calories through exercising if you want instead.

Last but not least, avoid the fat free foods. These foods tend to be high in sugar which leads to more calories in your body. Skip fast food places and replace with home cooked meals. Go ahead and snack but make sure it is on fruits, nuts, protein bars or shakes.

Losing weight will happen naturally if you watch what you eat, exercise and avoid any of those fad diets out there. Just remember the 500 calorie rule which will allow you to lose at least a pound or two a week.

is more difficult for women than men. This is because their metabolism is slower and their body stores more fat than men’s. Add on pregnancy, PMS and menopause and you definitely have a weight gain issue with women. There are steps you can take to lose those unwanted pounds.

Love The English

Love The English

I adore the English language. How much? Well, I am going to put this out there: English is the most flowing language there is. I’m not saying that all the other languages are rubbish, just that English, as far as structure and learnability goes, is that little bit better. And I’m not the only one who thinks so. I’ve met plenty of foreign people who agree with me.

I confess though, I think English is the best partly because I am lazy (plus I am English so am fully biased) and I prefer talking and writing without having to remember the correct article for everything such as the dreaded hard-to-grasp Der, Die and Das. Seriously, what good does the article do? I’ve never seen anything wrong with the good old-fashioned The.

I’ve had The Article Debate numerous times with numerous people, and the same points tend to come up each and every time. The main reason why people like articles, as far as I am aware, is the whole accuracy thing: that’s to say that when you use a word with the correct article, it simply cannot be mistaken for anything else. And they do have a point in a way: English, with everything being called The, can be confusing if it’s not your native tongue. I suppose in the end it comes down to preference and opinion.

One thing which I have been told, many times, is that English is the favourite language to sing in. Some argue that the simple dynamic of the language lends itself to being sculpted better than most, while others disagree and think that French is the best language to sing in. I can see both points, but one thing is certain: English can’t compete with French as far as elegance goes. I can’t see anybody from Newcastle upstaging a French singer and all her gorgeous charisma, can you?

How does chalets val d isere competition sound to everyone? You win lift tickets and a place to stay for a week of skiing. Everybody should really enter, this would be such a cool way way to spend next Christmas!

Gadget Hounds Unite!

Gadget Hounds Unite!

Email is fun to begin with, isn’t it? I used to think so. I can recall the days when seeing a (1) in my Inbox made me want to scream with joy. Nowadays it tends to be a (3) or (4) and I just want to scream. It’s nearly always something work-related, or related to someone who wants me to do more work for less money. Which makes me wonder if there’s a gadget out there that can make your (1) or whatever do something cool – like spin around, maybe – when someone you actually want to hear from has written. Now, I wouldn’t know if such a thing exists, but I bet Enigin would. An example of their wizardry can be seen at this link.

Enigin know a thing or two about gadgets, you see. And all their gadget reviews / news stuff is somehow tied-in with helping the environment. It’s like this, you see: as soon as this lot find a gadget they want to know how it can be changed so it saves more energy, costs less to run, and is generally less of a menace ot society. It’s this approach to gadgets which makes them stand out against a planet full of people who couldn’t care less. So if you’re a fan of all things digital and electronic, you could do a lot less than take some of Enigin’s advice.

The aforementioned link leads to a blog with one example of an email gadget, but Enigin have a number of other blogs. They even have one devoted to Geeks, one devoted to business, and several others which you can find by visiting any of them.
